Young Ham of the Year
2021 ARCA Young Ham of the Year
Tanner Irwin, KJ7JIL was named the 2021 ARCA Young
Ham of the Year at the ARCA Annual Meeting on June 12, 2021. He was
nominated by the Northwest Christian Amateur Radio Club (NCARA).
Tanner received his Technician license in October 2019 and quickly began having
an impact. He set up an amateur radio club at his school with his father's (who
works at the school) help. Tanner collaborated with his father to acquire grants
from the ARRL to purchase the equipment necessary to set up a station at the
school. The pandemic encouraged Tanner to help and offer support wherever
needed. He and the school club have been able to provide VE testing once a month
at the school since August 2020.
Tanner has demonstrated significant contributions to the Amateur Radio community
and his school. He is very deserving of this honor.
Congratulations, Tanner!
